After sleeping on it, the only idea I've come up with thus far... is something in the BIOS settings. I booted into BIOS and reset to 'default settings'. No change... same errors. I didn't run into these errors when I had a live distro running for almost an hour. hmmm...

Jon,
I also picked up a 330 series IBM server....well, I picked up 5 of them - 4 were identical build 8674s and 1 was a slighly more out-dated build 8653 according to the bios. I installed FreeBSD on them for demonstrating a high-availability load balancing project.
I haven't had any issues using the default BIOS settings, myself - I do however have issues with the adaptec scsi controller reporting my disks have become degraded.
I was wondering if you performed the system load test in the diagnostic menu. The first time I ran it I learned that 2 of my RAM chips were shot.
I don't think that I ever performed the load test available in BIOS. I should have. I have since scrapped this project and the server has been parted out. I did sell the RAM and the person who purchased it didn't report any problems. I figured the problem with my 330 lied somewhere in the motherboard.
